Pest Sanity

Editorial Policy

Corrections, disputes, removals, conflicts of interest, and the standards we hold ourselves to.

This page explains how Pest Sanity handles editorial decisions that affect the integrity of the directory. It is paired with our methodology, which covers how providers are sourced, scored, and ranked.

Corrections

If you find a factual error on Pest Sanity — a wrong phone number, an outdated address, an incorrect certification, a miscategorised industry served, or anything else — please use our contact form with:

  • The URL of the page in question
  • The specific field that is wrong
  • The correct information, with a source we can verify

Substantiated correction requests are typically actioned within ten business days. Pages updated in response to a correction will have their updated_at timestamp refreshed.

Disputes and listing removal

If you are a provider listed on Pest Sanity and you believe your listing should be removed, modified, or otherwise contested, use our contact form from an email at the same domain or verified contact associated with the business. Include:

  • The provider name and the URL of the listing
  • The specific change you are requesting (removal, factual correction, certification update, industry update)
  • A reason — particularly important for removal requests, since we do not remove listings simply because the provider prefers not to be listed publicly

We will remove a listing on substantiated request if (a) the business is no longer operating, (b) the business does not actually serve commercial customers in the metro listed, or (c) there is a verified factual issue we cannot resolve through correction. We do not remove listings to suppress critical reviews — see below.

Reviews

Review counts and star ratings shown on the directory reflect the public Google Business Profile for each provider. We do not generate, edit, solicit, or remove individual reviews. We do not allow providers to pay to suppress critical review signal.

The aggregated review tag distributions that power our “What customers say” section and city-level comparative badges are derived from public review text using an automated tagging pipeline. The methodology for that pipeline is described in our methodology. If you believe a tag is misclassified for a specific provider, email us.

Update cadence

Major directory refreshes happen quarterly: re-scraping company information, refreshing review counts and ratings, and re-running the review tagging pipeline. Targeted updates happen ad-hoc in response to corrections or notable provider changes (acquisitions, closures, new certifications). The updated_at field on each company record reflects the last verified refresh and is surfaced in our XML sitemap.

Conflict-of-interest disclosure

Pest Sanity makes money in one way: when a visitor requests a free quote through our on-site lead form, we may pass that lead to one or more relevant commercial providers in the visitor's metro, in exchange for a per-lead fee from the receiving provider.

Inclusion in the directory, ranking on city and state pages, certification badges, review signals, and editorial coverage are all independent of whether a provider participates in the lead program. Providers do not pay to be listed. Providers cannot pay for higher placement. Provider data on the directory is the same whether they receive leads from us or not. The lead matching for a given inquiry is based on metro coverage, industry fit, and provider availability — not on lead fees.

We are not affiliated with any pest control provider, franchise system, certification body, or industry association.

AI-assisted content

Some content on Pest Sanity is drafted, classified, or summarised with the help of large language models. Specifically:

  • Review tagging — individual customer reviews are classified into structured tags by an LLM. Aggregate distributions, not individual review text, are surfaced on the site.
  • Content drafting — some city-level and state-level explanatory content (climate notes, common pests, regulatory summaries) is drafted with LLM assistance and then reviewed and edited before publication.
  • Editorial guidance — model output is treated as a starting point, not a finished product. Factual claims are checked against primary sources before publication.

We do not use LLMs to generate or fabricate reviews, ratings, certifications, or any other field that represents a verifiable claim about a real-world provider.

Privacy

Information submitted through our quote form (name, email, phone, business type, urgency, location) is shared only with the matched providers we connect you to, and is used only to facilitate that quote request. We do not sell visitor data to third parties outside the matched-provider use case.
